Our next Potomac 356 Owner's Group gathering will be our annual picnic held on Sunday, October 6th at Bjorn & Barbara Stalesen’s farm in Frederick, Maryland. Also we will offer an optional driving tour before the picnic.

The Covered Bridge Driving Tour

This year we will do things a little differently by having the driving tour begin earlier than the picnic at a starting location away from the Stalesen’s farm. Driving tour participants will meet at 11:00am in the parking lot of the Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, Maryland. This location is about 15 minutes north of Frederick and it is just off US Rt. 15. From the meeting spot we will travel in caravan north through Thurmont to the first covered bridge. After a short stop, we will continue to the second covered bridge (we visited this one in 2011) and stop again. These first two bridges have small parking lots that can accommodate our cars for those who would like to take photos. From there we will drive to the third and last covered bridge before heading to Bjorn and Barbara’s for the picnic. We should arrive at the Stalesen’s by 12:30 pm.

The Picnic

The driving tour is optional. Those people who do not wish to participate in the tour may go directly to Bjorn and Barbara’s. Plan to arrive anytime after 12 noon. The Stalesen farm is located just east of Frederick, Maryland and it is easily accessible from major highways. The address is: 5522 Camelot Ct, Frederick, MD 21704-6830.

Plan to join your 356 friends to enjoy a German themed picnic with bratwurst, potato salad and beverages. Wander around the farm, look at the goats, and enjoy the view. Feel free to bring along some 356 parts to swap, too.

Please note that Bjorn and Barbara have sold the portion of their property that included the pond. So we cannot offer swimming or fishing as part of the picnic activities. Sorry.

  • POG will provide: sausages & hot dogs, potato salad, soft drinks, water and beer.
  • What you will need to bring: a dessert or a side dish or an appetizer to share, loaded in your 356 with chairs, blankets, toys, bocce set, or anything to make your picnic day fun!
  • Cost: $5.00 per person, kids under 12 years of age may attend free

For planning purposes please print and complete the form (or a reasonable facsimile) below. Enclose the form with your check and send it to Bjorn Stalesen by Wednesday, October 2nd. After this date, you are still welcome to attend, but to ensure that we have enough beverages and food for everyone, it is important that you contact Bjorn or Barbara at 301-662-6042 or before Sunday, October 6th.
