Sunday, May 5th will mark the 30th time that PCA Potomac has gathered with our friends from the National Capitol Chapter of the BMW Club and the Washington Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America for this terrific show. This great tradition, which began on the grounds of the German Embassy in 1983, was originally limited to 45 cars – 15 from each marque. Moreover, the wine and cheese reception hosted by the German Ambassador was limited to 50 participants. In subsequent years, the rules gradually changed due to the event’s popularity and the Embassy’s limited space. So the show moved to larger venues, including Woodlawn Plantation, but ultimately ended up at Nottoway Park in Vienna, Virginia, where we will meet again this year.
We have some changes planned to mark this special year. For example, entrant’s cars from the three clubs will be interspersed, allowing visitors the opportunity to see more of the fabulous cars all displayed together, rather than in three separate areas as in the past. However, as is customary, each club will still organize its own judging. The Porsche show will again be a “top-only” concours – meaning that scoring of the “formally judged” cars will be based on cleanliness and overall appearance of exterior, interior, engine and trunk compartments. No one will be checking fender wells or undercarriage. There will also be a Wash & Shine (People’s Choice) category, so there is no excuse for not entering.
In addition, a “car corral” will be located along the park entrance for spectator Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes owners who do not want to display their cars on the main field for judging; however, car corral space will be limited. We also anticipate having more vendors this year.
As has been our tradition, the very classy trophies will be presented at the “wine, beer, soda & cheese” reception at about 3:00 pm in the garden of the adjacent Hunter House. The PCA registration fee for this event is $30.00 per car, regardless of class. The registration fee includes one (1) ticket to the reception and additional tickets are available at $10.00 each. Children under 12 years old attend free. There is no charge for spectators.
This long-standing tradition continues to be the Washington, DC area’s premier German-marque car show that no loyal Porsche owner would want to miss. So mark your calendars for this annual rite of spring for German car fans. The RAIN DATE is Sunday, MAY 19th.
